The Number 1 Reason People Fail and How to Succeed

I'm going to tell you the answer in the first sentence of this article: people give up.

You can stop reading now. If, however, you want to succeed and learn how not to give up, read on...

The Experiment

If you're trying to figure out success, here's a little experiment for you. Go around and ask successful friends, family and colleagues what are the top one or two things they attribute to their success.

More than likely, you're going to hear many of these people say that they didn't quit. Tenacity is the ingredient that most successful people have and those who don't consider themselves successful don't.

All the people that have been called "crazy," all the dreams that have once been called "impossible," all the success in the world comes from the same fountain. It's a fountain that flows with tenacity.

Successful People Never Give Up

Do you think successful people fail?

Sure they do. Of course, they fail. Success requires failure. But there's a difference between successful people and those who are not successful. Successful people just won't quit. They don't give up. They're like a dog with a bone. They take failure, learn from it and keep grinding away.

Yes, the dream or the path may change a little or even radically, but successful people do not quit. Their lives depend on success. They see it as a do or die. And, in fact, it is a do or die situation. Think about it. If you've ever had a dream or a bold vision, you know what this means. If you don't succeed, if you don't keep at it, then your dream dies. If you keep at it. If your tenacious and keep your eye on the ultimate goal, then your dream lives on. It's most definitely do or die.

How to Brea the Fire

When you have a dream or goal, you have to breathe fire. By that, I mean that you absolutely cannot quit. Doubt has a way of destroying more dreams than anything I know. The world is littered with excellent ideas, dreams and wasted opportunities that fell by the wayside when doubt gave way to passion.

Don't let doubt creep into your mind. Want to know how to keep your dream alive, even when the world seems to have other plans for you? Want to know how to keep from quitting?

The formula is very simple: persistence + consistency = tenacity.

Set your goal. Dream your big dream. Then get your mind in the game. Realize that every morning you have a choice. You can choose to wake up and feel negative about the fact that you have to go to a job you hate or be in a situation that is killing you by a thousand cuts. Or, you can paint the picture that you want and keep it displayed crystal clear in your mind's eye. And you can choose-each and every day, without fail-to chip away at it. We know that the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.

You can change your life in incredible ways if you persistently and consistently work at changing it. You can make your dreams happen if you persistently and consistently take little steps-even when those steps take you backward a little.

It's called tenacity.

You have to own that word. You have to become that word.

Bruce Lee once said, "You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Become like water my friend."

Become tenacious and succeed.
